3 Days from Chefchaouen to Marrakesh Via Merzouga
- Day 1: Chefchaouen to Midelt City via Meknes, the Middle Atlas Mountains, and Cedar Forest
Commence your journey after breakfast at your riad in Chefchaouen as we set off towards Midelt City. Along the way, we’ll make several noteworthy stops, beginning with the captivating city of Meknes. Known for its rich history and grand architecture, Meknes offers a glimpse into Morocco’s imperial past.
Continuing our drive, we’ll traverse the scenic landscapes of the Middle Atlas Mountains, adorned with lush forests and picturesque valleys. Our next stop takes us to the charming village of Azrou, nestled amidst the renowned cedar forest, the largest in Morocco. Here, keep an eye out for Barbary apes as you explore the natural beauty of the area.
After immersing ourselves in the tranquility of the cedar forest, we’ll journey onwards to Midelt City, passing through the splendid hills and mountains of the Atlas range. Upon arrival in Midelt, settle in and unwind as we prepare for the adventures that lie ahead. Overnight stay in Midelt City.
- Day 2: Midelt - Ziz Valley - Tafilalt Oasis - Erfoud - Merzouga Desert
Awaken to a traditional breakfast at your hotel in Midelt, ready to embark on another day of exploration. Our journey today takes us through the breathtaking landscapes of the Ziz Valley and Ziz Gorge, offering panoramic views of lush palm groves and dramatic gorges.
As we ascend into the High Atlas Mountains and descend towards the Moroccan desert, marvel at the beauty of the rugged terrain and the winding path carved by the Ziz River. En route to Merzouga Desert, we’ll pass through Erfoud, renowned for its fossil fields and quarries, offering a glimpse into Morocco’s geological heritage.
Arriving in Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert, prepare for an unforgettable experience as we venture into the mesmerizing Erg Chebbi dunes. Embark on a camel ride into the heart of the desert, where you’ll witness the breathtaking sunset over the golden sands. Spend the night camping in the comfort of a private Berber tent, serenaded by the silence of the desert under a canopy of stars.
- Day 3: Merzouga Desert to Marrakech via Ouarzazate and the High Atlas Mountains
On the final day of our desert adventure, bid farewell to the tranquility of the Sahara Desert as we journey back to Merzouga. From there, we’ll embark on our return journey towards Marrakech, passing through the scenic landscapes of Ouarzazate and the High Atlas Mountains.
As we traverse the picturesque terrain, we’ll make a stop in Ifrane, affectionately known as “Little Switzerland” for its charming alpine architecture and scenic beauty. Depending on the schedule, enjoy lunch in Ifrane or take a break in the picturesque Ziz Valley.
Traveling in our modern, air-conditioned transport, we’ll continue our journey through the scenic Ziz Valley, offering panoramic views of the lush oasis and winding river. As we bid farewell to the mesmerizing landscapes of Morocco, reflect on the memories created during our desert adventure before arriving back in Marrakech, marking the conclusion of our unforgettable journey.
